The Nigerian Army Headquarters dropped a bombshell on Nigerians
yesterday, when they made it known to reporters that the leader of the dreaded
Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau was not the one killed over the weekend but
someone else who bears close resemblance to him.
Now it was gathered that the alleged killing of a man claimed to be the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau had ignited fresh tensions between the Nigerian and Cameroonian military, when reports emerged over the weekend that the man was killed by the Cameroonian military when they engaged factions of the sect inside Nigeria.
This news is coming following renewed tension between Nigerian and Cameroonian troops over the alleged border crossing by the latter into Nigeria to engage the Boko Haram sect.

A Cameroonian Newspaper yesterday had published quotes apparently from a military source stating that Shekau was killed during a cross border raid of his hideout in Nigeria. To prove the authenticity of the source, the paper apparently published a photo of the slain leader, but sources inside the Nigerian military say it is one Bashir Mohammed and not Abubakar Shekau.
According to the report, Nigerian soldiers, not Cameroonian troops, killed Mohammed last Friday in a fierce battle against Boko Haram insurgents in Kodunga.
It said that Mohammed, who bore a striking resemblance to Shekau and had appeared in a recent video and was later killed when he led insurgents who were attempting to capture Kodunga and then seize Maiduguri.
