The
town was home to at least 50,000 Christians and has now being seized by Islamic
militants. The
Islamic State (IS) group have captured Qaraqosh, the biggest minority town in
north Iraq causing Christians living in that town to abandon their homes and
flee for their lives.
According
to information given by an international Christian organisation, at least a
quarter of Iraq's Christians were leaving Qaraqosh and other surrounding towns. IS
has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria to create an Islamic caliphate.
Kurdish
forces known as the Peshmerga have been fighting the jihadists in the north for
weeks.
Another
French organisation, Fraternite en Irak, confirmed on its Facebook page that
most of the inhabitants of Nineveh province fled as the Islamists took over the
Christian town.
The
town was home to at least 50,000 Christians and has now being seized by

Archbishops
in Nineveh have now confirmed that the town has indeed fallen.
