Legendary fashion designer Oscar de
la Renta has died. He was 82. According to a statement released by his family,
he died at home yesterday evening in his home in Kent, Connecticut surrounded
by family. The statement didn’t specify his cause of death but he’d been
battling cancer for a while.
“While our hearts are broken by the
idea of life without Oscar, he’s still very much with us. Oscar’s hard work,
his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company. We will
make Oscar very proud of us by continuing in an even stronger way the work that
Oscar loved so much” the statement read.
He worked as a designer for
Balenciaga, Lanvin, Elizabeth Arden before launching his label in 1965. He rose
to fame in the U.S. for dressing First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
He’s survived by a wife, a son,
stepchildren and step grandchildren. May his soul rest in peace…
