Burnt BRT Female Police Officer Poured Petrol On Bus, Witness Says

A tribunal has been set up in Lagos to investigate the alleged burning of BRT buses in the state on July 4. A three-man panel has been set up in Lagos to investigate the July 4 mayhem which occurred on the popular Ikorodu road and involved the burning of some BRT buses.

A witness reportedly told the panel yesterday, September 17, 2014, that a female soldier sprayed the Bus Rapid Transit vehicles with petrol. The inferno raged at the Palmgrove Bus Stop in an incident that supposedly went on for three hours and was blamed on the death of a soldier.

The testimony was reportedly given by one Mustapha, an employee of Mutual Model Transport Ltd., a sub-operator of the LAGBUS. He said further that he saw a corpse in a bus while trying to start it and that he immediately informed a colleague.

He continued:

 “They (the soldiers) entered the bus. They saw the body and checked his identity card. They assigned two soldiers to guard the bus and left.

“When they came back, they started vandalising the bus. A female soldier came and she started pouring fuel inside the bus.

“After that I saw three buses, one in blue colour and two in red colour on fire.”

 
Testimonies are expected from other witnesses including officers of the Nigerian Army family members of the dead soldier.
