Fashola Accuses FG Of Lying To Nigerians On Electricity Capacity

Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola yesterday said the statistics being quoted by the federal government in the power sector is vague and deceptive.

Fashola who said this while speaking at the 2014 edition of the Lagos State Governors Education Awards in Ikeja added that lack of adequate electricity in the country is impoverishing the nation.

He said the federal government is not sincere in its acclaimed efforts to tackle the problems of electricity in the country. continue...

According to him, These children have the capacity to solve the problem of power in this country if they get the right funds even if the central government is busy lying about electricity. If they continue with those lies, the next generation of people in Lagos will solve it.

It is important to understand that electricity is what is keeping Nigeria in poverty. We have done a basic power audit and we have discovered that an average two bedroom flat in Lagos will consume about over one thousand kilowatts of electricity.

By generating this power through generating set, he spends N2, 097 daily. If there was public power, the person will be paying about N600 daily. This difference in funds would have been kept if the central government provides power for the citizens.

This money would have helped to reduce the rate of poverty in the country; such fund would have been used to provide other needs rather than enrich the countries that provide the generating sets.
As part of his administrations determination to solve the problem of electricity in the state the governor explained that his government has approved the installation of solar facilities for public schools in the state.
