EX-GOV. PETER OBI UNDERGOES SCREENING
FOR EBOLA AT ABUJA AIRPORT RECENTLY
The
Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has reiterated the Federal Governments
resolve to containing the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) at its airports.
The
minister spoke yesterday while fielding questions from reporters in Lagos at
the end of a two-day inspection of facilities and projects at the local and
international wings of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja.
He
said part of his visit to the airport was to review the medical procedures,
including the screening of inbound and outbound passengers, to ensure that air
travelers and other airport users are protected from the virus.
Chidoka
said: I am coming out to make sure that the country does not go back in the
fight against the virus. That is why we decided to go to the airports yesterday
(Monday) to interact and reassure Nigerians of the governments commitment to
keep our airports safe. It is also to make sure that it is not a transit point
for the transmission of the Ebola virus.
The
virus is not a political issue; it is not an issue for passing the bulk. It is
not an issue that recognises ethnicity or partisanship. It is an issue against
humanity. It is an issue we should all rise up and fight. It is an issue we
should all show restraint about and compassion for those who have been affected
with the disease.
So,
we want to assure Nigerians of our commitment in keeping our airport EVD-free.
It is a commitment I have.
