Authorities
of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Delta State says no
fewer than 176 suspected oil thieves including persons with illegal petroleum
products were arrested in 2013.
The
commands public relations officer, Felix Egede, told journalists at the weekend
in Asaba, that officers of the command confiscated 140, 850 litres of petroleum
products from the suspects; adding that upon interrogation, they confessed to
have illegally stolen the product and were exporting the products to other
states.
Egede
said that the products were seized from various locations; adding that the
NSCDC also destroyed illegal petroleum products at four locations across the
state
According
to him, two Cotonou bound boats and 21 vehicles were also impounded by the
officers and men of the command during the period under review, including 176
suspects, while six were arrested for allegedly vandalizing Chevron Nigeria
Limited pipeline located around Muka Raba Flow Station close to oil well in the
state.
